Add prefixes and suffixes to Chrome download filenames
Use a prefix or suffix when a downloaded filename needs project context. Naming presets help keep a batch of files consistent without editing each name manually after downloading.
Choose what belongs before and after the original name
A prefix appears before the filename stem; a suffix appears after it and before the extension. For example, a prefix of client_ and a suffix of _review turn interview.mp4 into client_interview_review.mp4. The extension remains the file type, rather than becoming part of the suffix.
Use the preview before downloading
Check the resulting filename in the Prefix / Suffix tab. Pay attention to spaces, separators, and duplicated words already present in the source name. An example preview helps you judge the rule before applying it to real downloads.
Keep presets specific to the project
Use short labels and stable separators for naming presets. A client name or review stage can be useful; repeating the entire destination path in every filename usually makes names harder to scan. Keep the original filename meaningful so that the file remains recognizable outside its folder.
Naming and conversion are different operations
Changing a suffix does not convert the file format. Renaming an AVIF file to .png would not create a PNG image. Use the local conversion option for a genuine format change. Naming presets are a PRO feature; live PRO purchases remain unavailable while the store is awaiting approval.
